OUR MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL
Tama Martial Arts Center was the first freestanding building constructed in Dayton since 1988 which is just kilometers away from Riverside. Grandmaster Manuel R. Taningco dreamed of bringing all the martial arts under one roof. Two acres of land are used for the facility. The total area of the martial arts studio is around 8,000 square feet. The Tama building was built by Grandmaster Taningco’s faithful and loyal trainees.
This building is unique because it was designed specifically for martial arts schools. Taningco’s perseverance and inspiration paid off after many years of dedicated teaching. His prayers, meditation, and faith led him to build this massive building with the support from the martial arts trainees.
His humble start was in the basement. Taningco was given permission by his Grandmaster Gasper to establish a club in 1976. Taningco began teaching at the Boy’s Club on Keowee Street, Dayton. He also started a club in Huber Heights through Wayne High School facility. Habitat Community Centre is down in Miamisburg. After a lot of traveling, he settled down in Belmont where the Belmont Building used to be located. Taningco then moved the studio from Belmont Building’s basement to Woodman Drive, where “Play Guitar” now is located. In 1988, God blessed him with the opportunity to purchase the land on which Tama is currently located in order to build his dream studio.
Grandmaster Taningco opened several martial arts training centers in Centerville, Beavercreek, Beaver Heights, Beavercreek and West Chester. He sold them all to his trainees, and now he manages the Tama Building on Woodman Drive. He brought Shaolin Kempo, conventional jiujitsu, Filipino Kali/Eskrima, Indonesian Pencak Silat, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Tai Chi, Chin Na, Full Contact, Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu, Aikijutsu, and Kendo. He established the Children Martial Arts classes, and developed a program for most of the self-control. When he moved to Dayton, 1976 there weren’t any children classes. Taningco began teaching martial arts to Joanna and Lee after he had his first children.
