OUR MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL
Tama Martial Arts Center has been the largest free-standing building in Dayton’s metropolitan area since 1988 which is just kilometers away from Dayton. Grandmaster Manuel R. Taningco wanted to house all of the martial arts that he brought under one roof. The property covers two acres. The total area of the martial arts studio is around 8,000 square feet. The Tama building was built by Grandmaster Taningco’s faithful and loyal learners.
It was built specifically for martial art school. Taningco’s persistence and inspiration paid off after so many years dedicated teaching. With the help of martial arts learners, his prayers and meditation led to the building of this immense structure.
His humble beginnings took place in the basement of his home and sometimes in his kitchen, where sparring was an option. Taningco was given permission by his Grandmaster Gasper to establish a club in 1976. Taningco began teaching at the Boy’s Club on Keowee Street, Dayton. He also started a club in Huber Heights through Wayne High School facility. Habitat Community Centre is down in Miamisburg. He traveled so much, that he eventually settled down in Belmont. Taningco moved his studio from the Belmont Building’s basement into the Woodman Drive location where “Play Guitar”. With God’s blessings, Taningco was eventually able to buy the land where Tama now lives to build his dream studio.
Grandmaster Taningco opened several martial arts training centers in Centerville, Beavercreek, Beaver Heights, Beavercreek and West Chester. He sold all of them to his learners and now only manages Woodman Drive’s Tama building. He brought Shaolin Kempo, traditional jiujitsu, Filipino Kali/Eskrima, Indonesian Pencak Silat, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Tai Chi, Chin Na, Full Contact, Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu, Aikijutsu, and Kendo. He created a structured training class and taught the Children Martial Arts training class. In 1976, Dayton had no children training class.
